Pregnancy & Postpartum Counselling in Vancouver

What Pregnancy & Postpartum Counselling Can Help With:

Pregnancy and the postpartum period can evoke feelings of anxiety, grief, and identity changes, along with relationship strain that often remain unspoken. This season of life is surrounded by cultural noise about how you’re “supposed” to feel, leaving little room for the complex emotions you may experience, including fear, ambivalence, grief, or overwhelm alongside the joy. Mental health counseling focused on perinatal support provides a safe space to express the full truth of your experience, without the pressure to express gratitude or ease you're not feeling.

Perinatal mental health covers far more ground than most people expect. In my practice, I offer postpartum support to individuals navigating:

- Anxiety or intrusive thoughts during pregnancy or postpartum

- Depression during pregnancy or in the postpartum period

- Birth trauma, or an unexpected birth experience

- Grief surrounding infertility, miscarriage, or pregnancy loss

- Identity shifts associated with becoming or becoming a parent again

- Relationship strain with a partner during the transition to parenthood

- Difficulty bonding or guilt about how bonding is unfolding

- The pressure to feel a certain way, when your true feelings are more complicated

If your feelings don’t neatly align with any of these categories, that doesn't negate their validity. I encourage you to reach out, so we can discuss your experience directly.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Therapy: Frequently Asked Questions

Is it normal to have scary or intrusive thoughts after having a baby?

Yes, this is far more common than most people realize, and having these thoughts doesn't mean something is wrong with you or that you'd act on them. Understanding these feelings is part of my mental health counseling approach, and I can help you work through them directly, without judgment.

I don't feel the way I expected to feel about my pregnancy or my baby. Is that a problem?

No. Many people experience ambivalence, grief, or disconnection along with, or instead of, the joy they anticipated. This is often unspoken and is a common experience that can be addressed in perinatal counseling.

Can counseling help with grief after a miscarriage or pregnancy loss?

Yes. Pregnancy loss entails real and significant grief, even if it isn’t always acknowledged by those around you. I offer dedicated postpartum support to help you process this loss in a way that feels right for you.

Do I need to already be diagnosed with postpartum depression or anxiety to reach out?

No. You don’t need a diagnosis or a specific label to start counseling. If something feels off, difficult, or heavier than you expected, that’s reason enough to seek support.

Do you offer online perinatal counseling?

Yes. I provide secure online sessions for clients anywhere in British Columbia, along with in-person sessions at my East Vancouver office—especially convenient during the postpartum period.

Is perinatal counseling covered by insurance?

Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) services usually get covered under most extended health plans in BC. Please check my Rates & Coverage page for details or look into your specific plan for counseling or psychotherapy coverage.
