Counselling Services in Vancouver: Frequently Asked Questions

A smiling woman in a white blazer and black top.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes, I offer a free consultation therapy session for 15 minutes by phone. This conversation allows us to explore what has prompted you to seek therapy, your hopes for the process, and whether my approach aligns with your needs, whether you're considering individual counselling or couples counselling. There’s absolutely no obligation to book a session afterwards, and I can also provide information about counselling fees and online counselling options during our chat.

What are your fees & how does payment work?

My current counselling fees are as follows: Individual counselling (50 minutes): $160 and Couples counselling (50 minutes): $210. Payment is due at the beginning of each session, and a receipt will be provided for your records. If you're interested in online counselling options, I offer flexible arrangements to suit your needs. Many extended health benefit plans reimburse services provided by a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). Since every insurance plan is different, I recommend checking with your provider to confirm your coverage before your first appointment. Additionally, I offer a free consultation therapy session to help you decide if my services are right for you.

What can I expect during my first counselling session?

The first session is an intake session, designed to help me gain a thorough understanding of you, your experiences, and what has brought you to therapy. During this session, we will explore what has been difficult for you, the reasons behind seeking individual counselling or couples counselling at this point in your life, and what you hope to gain from our work together. I'll ask questions about your personal history, relationships, and overall well-being to develop a clearer picture of your unique circumstances, allowing us to tailor therapy to your needs.

There is no expectation that you have everything figured out before you arrive. Regardless of counselling fees, my goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and respected, facilitating the building of a strong therapeutic relationship. Additionally, if you’re considering online counselling options, we can also discuss how those might fit into your journey. I'm here to support you, and let’s also consider any free consultation therapy opportunities you might find beneficial. Together, we will work on a shared understanding of how we can move forward.

Is everything we discuss confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a fundamental part of therapy, including both individual counselling and couples counselling. Everything we discuss remains private, with a few legal and ethical exceptions required by law, such as situations involving immediate risk of harm, concerns about the safety of a child, or a court order. These limits will be reviewed with you during our first session, so you know exactly what to expect. Additionally, we offer online counselling options and a free consultation therapy session to help you get started, along with clear information on counselling fees.

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes.

I offer secure virtual counselling for clients across British Columbia, along with in-person sessions at my office near Commercial Drive and Broadway in Vancouver.

Many clients appreciate the flexibility of online counselling options, while others prefer couples counselling or individual counselling in a face-to-face setting. Both options provide the same thoughtful and collaborative therapeutic experience. Additionally, I offer a free consultation therapy session to help you determine the best fit for your needs, including an overview of counselling fees.

How often should I come to therapy?

Many clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum and establish a strong therapeutic relationship, while others opt for couples counselling or individual counselling every two or three weeks, depending on their goals, schedule, or budget, including counselling fees. Together, we will decide on a pace that feels supportive and sustainable for you, and I offer free consultation therapy and various online counselling options to accommodate your needs.
