Life transitions come in all forms: a new job, a move, a breakup, a graduation, a diagnosis, becoming a parent, an empty nest, retirement. Change asks us to let go of a version of ourselves that once felt familiar, even as a new one begins to take shape. That in-between space can feel disorienting, even when the change is positive. Counselling for life changes provides a supportive environment to slow down and make sense of what’s shifting, rather than facing it alone.
Transitions come in many forms, and they don’t need to be dramatic to feel disorienting. In my practice, I offer Vancouver counselling services to support individuals navigating:
- Career changes, job loss, or shifts in professional identity
- Moving to a new city or leaving a place that shaped who you are
- The end of a relationship, or the beginning of a significant new one
- Becoming a parent, or adjusting to an empty nest
- Retirement and the identity questions that often accompany it
- A health diagnosis—yours or someone close to you
- Graduating, or stepping out of a role or structure that once organized your life
- A quieter, harder-to-name sense that something in your life needs to change, even without a clear external event
If you're navigating something that doesn't fit neatly into these categories, it doesn’t mean it isn’t a significant transition. You are welcome to reach out, and we can discuss it directly.
Why does a transition I chose still feel so hard?
Even wanted change involves loss — of routine, identity, or a familiar version of yourself. It's common to feel grief alongside excitement, and both can be true at once.
What if I can't quite name what's changing, only that something feels off?
That's a very common starting point. Not every transition arrives with a clear label. In my Vancouver counselling services, we can work together to explore what's shifting, even before it has a name.
How is this different from general counselling?
Counselling for life changes isn’t a separate technique but rather a focused approach — we center on the specific change you're navigating and its impact on your identity, relationships, and sense of direction.
How long does this type of counselling take?
This varies by person and transition. Some individuals come for a short period around a specific change; others find that transitions bring up longer-standing patterns worth exploring further. We'll check in regularly on pace and progress.
Do you offer online life transitions counselling?
Yes. I provide secure online sessions to clients anywhere in British Columbia, in addition to in-person sessions at my Vancouver office.
Is this type of counselling covered by insurance?
Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) services are generally covered under most extended health plans in BC. See my Rates & Coverage page for details, or check your specific plan for counselling or psychotherapy coverage.
